About La Tzoumaz
La Tzoumaz (run the 2 words together to rhyme with satsuma) is a friendly Swiss village which shares the Savoleyres mountain with Verbier, and has spectacular views across the Rhone Valley.
Easy to get to from Geneva - 100miles/ 160km and 1hr 40, motorway all the way, with wonderful views across Lake Geneva; the last 13km climbs from the valley at 500m to the village at over 1500m; driving from the UK is straightforward too, about 8 hours moving time from Calais.
A modern and fast 8 seater gondola in the centre of the resort takes you to the top of the Savoleyres mountain between La Tzoumaz and Verbier. There's also piste access at the top of the village accessible by road, where there's the very popular Etablons bar, open throughout the day and for après fun! Both the blue and red piste converge here, and then it's on down to the telecabine. Just across the way is the nursery slope with a magic carpet making it easy for even the youngest children and complete beginners to find their ski legs.
And you'll be pleasantly surprised to find that there is barely a lift queue, no matter when you visit, it's partly why people come back each year!
Linked directly to Verbier by the high speed gondola and chair lifts, with access into the whole 4 Vallées ski domain. The area boasts some of the best skiing in Europe and you can ski straight back to the village on easy blue runs, red pistes or the more challenging itinerary Vallon d'Arby. In 2015/6 the 'funpark' was developed, a mix of skier/boarder cross and snow park, ideal for the whole family.
From the top of the Savoleyres lift station you can sledge down the 10km toboggan run through the trees back to the village, most definitely not just for children!
The swimming pool, housed in the telecabine building, is open in the winter, along with a sauna. A good way to relieve those tired and aching muscles.
2 ski schools - Tzoum'Evasion and Tzoumaz Booking
The outdoor ice rink is open every day, you can rent skates at one of the sports shops and there’s an eighties ice disco every week – don’t forget your leg-warmers!!
The resort has a selection of shops, bars, cafes and restaurants, including a decent sized supermarket with coffee shop and bread baked on site.
In the spring, summer and autumn there are fantastic walking routes along the "Bisse", the ancient irrigation system, as well as some far more demanding hiking into the high mountains.
Mountain biking : Some of the very best natural single track and Verbier has a popular bikepark with northshore and plenty of other obstacles
The tennis court can be rented by the hour
There is golf close by with a mountain course in Verbier or at Sion and Sierre in the valley
A huge thank you to Dan and Mini Collar for this resort review of La Tzoumaz. Dan and Mini run Chalet La Luge, a luxury catered chalet, in addition to managing a number of apartments and chalets in the resort.

Fabulous skiing this weekend! The link to Verbier opened from La Tzoumaz, and the snow's here, so we ski toured up on Sunday morning (after 10-15cm on Saturday) in sunshine and blue skies, but properly cold -7C or so. The ski back down was in lovely light powder!
